Vintage Restored Dawes Galaxy For Sale

May 28, 2014   //   by ross.taylor   //   All, For Sale  //  No Comments

At the end of last year we bought an old Dawes Galaxy from eBay for a relative. Mostly we went for this particular one because of the beautiful old Brooks saddle. The relative in question having actually seen the bike decided that he needed something a lot more upright. Rather than put it straight back on eBay we decided that it was so lovely and had so much potential that we would restore it to it’s former glory.

So now the restoration is completed and it is for sale.

The original paintwork was ruined and the decals were mostly gone. So we got it powder coated (tougher than paint) in the original colour:

All the parts were individually cleaned and serviced before refitting. We replaced the tyres, cables, pannier rack, bar tape and brake pads. Everything else has been saved and still works well. It is a 58cm if measured centre to top or a 56cm if measured centre to centre. Here is the finished bike in our new office:

With the cost of the parts, the powder coating and the time taken this was never going to be a very profitable project. In fact it is so lovely had it been the right size there is no way we would have parted with it. But, having had it sat looking nice in our new HQ for a couple of months we now need to sell it. Sad times.

Would you like to own a beautiful bike like this? Go and have a look in Roll for the Soul in Bristol where it is on display. If it is not raining and the guys like the look of you (and you have sufficient ID), they will let you take it for a short test ride to see if you like the lovely smooth way it rides.

We are asking for £495 or near offer. So give us a call on 07811 330586 if you are interested.

THE BIKE HAS NOW BEEN SOLD

Martyn Ashton is my Hero!

Dec 10, 2013   //   by ross.taylor   //   All, Blog, Videos  //  No Comments

A while ago Martyn Ashton released the excellent Road Bike Party. And then started making Road Party 2, but before it was finished he had a massive accident during a Trials riding demo at Silverstone and broke his back and was left paralysed from the waist down. Since then he has been very positive and stayed strong, he always seems to be smiling in every photo you see him in. He hasn’t let his situation get him down at all.

He has enlisted the help of some trials legends to help him finish Road Bike Party 2 and today it has been released.

Here is some of the blurb from YouTube about the video:

Incredible stunts and amazing tricks all completed on a £15,000 Colnago C59 Italia? It can only be a Road Bike Party! Lycra-clad trials legend Martyn Ashton’s first Road Bike Party was a YouTube sensation, so a sequel HAD to be made, bigger and better than before! Martyn was in the middle of filming when his life was transformed by an accident during a trials display which has left him paralysed from the waist down. Courage, determination and great friends have helped Martyn to complete his vision for what a Road Bike Party is.

Road Bike Party 2 features special guest appearances from two trials riding and YouTube legends, and music from Catfish and the Bottlemen with “Rango” and Capella.

In the words of Mr Ashton, “Party on”!

No bikes were harmed in the making of this film.

She might be a crazy World Cup downhill racer, but I am still very impressed at the size of her ….. oh wait. Something for a Friday afternoon, enjoy.

Do you like the idea of cycling to a beautiful stately home a few miles from Bristol with hundreds of like minded people and when you get there watching a classic film in the great outdoors. Well the amazing Two Wheeled Drive In Cinema is back again on Friday 13th September.

I was lucky enough to go to the now legendary Point Break showing a few years ago and then the brilliant Sing a Long a Wicker Man and last year Bill and Ted vs Waynes World was an event that I will never forget. This year it is My Fair Lady and I am gutted that I cannot go.

Tickets have sold out in the past, so I’d strongly recommend buying yours today! You can buy them HERE

Have a look below for what the legendary Nouveau who organises the event has to say.

MyFairLadyPosterNew

The evening will show you quite how accessible the beautiful house and grounds are on two wheels. If you’ve often ridden down those streets before, but the pavement has always stayed beneath your feet before, you might be excited to know that our film will be the biggest film of 1964, the glorious… My Fair Lady…

It’s the original Faking It. Come and see quite why so much fuss has been made about the beautiful Audrey Hepburn and marvel at how she knocks any other bizarre cockney accent in to an upturned top hat with her portrayal of flower girl turned aristocratic impostor Eliza Doolittle. Be made to feel like a shameful, sloppy, potty-mouthed guttersnipe by the magnificent vocal control of the masterful Henry Higgins, played by Rex Harrison at his rampaging best. Rejoice in dodging husbandly and fatherly duties in favor of a pint with everyman philosopher Stanley Holloway. Live in fear of being locked in a cupboard with no chocolates by the fearful Mrs Pearce. Tickets are available now- click here to purchase! .

Bristol Lord Mayor Faruk Choudhury makes a Smoothie!

Jun 24, 2013   //   by ross.taylor   //   Videos  //  No Comments

Yesterday on Sunday 23rd June 2013 we were running a Dr Bike session with the LSTF Roadshow Sustainable Travel Team at the Redcatch Park Fun Day (http://www.friendsofredcatchpark.com/news/community-fun-day-2013).

Quite often as part of the Travel Team’s stall there is a smoothie bike. Yesterday the Bristol Lord Mayor, Faruk Choudhury, came and opened the Fun Day and had a look round, whilst looking round he came to our stall and made himself a smoothie!

Another great video from those northern monkeys at Hope. This one has lots of great cameos. I especially like the two downhill racers from my generation getting up to no good.

How many can you spot?

Unfortunately we couldn’t make it this year, but it is always a brilliant event. Hopefully we will be there in 2014!
